Preschool is the first step into a broader educational environment and for some it is often the first time away from home and family. To help your child settle happily into his or her new surroundings, we ask that you maintain a close link with the Preschool. We welcome any information that will help us have a better understanding of your child.
Garran Preschool has a National Quality Framework rating of Exceeding. We offer 15 hours of preschool for children turning four before the end of April of the year of enrolment.
At Garran Preschool we believe that creating a warm, caring and happy learning environment enhances child development. Staff and parent collaboration fosters the intellectual, physical and social development of each child.
Garran Preschool educators are committed to providing a high quality, child-centred program where families are welcomed and their culture is acknowledged and valued. Parents’ role as their child’s first educator is respected and staff celebrate with them their child’s achievements and strengths. Opportunities to play and learn in groups of various sizes are promoted to support emerging social skills and to assist children to be valued and active members of their families and community.
At Garran Preschool the educators believe in a play-based approach that caters to the uniqueness each child brings. Children are encouraged to take risks within a safe and supportive learning environment, where they actively engage with people, objects, representations and the environment.
Teachers observe children’s interactions and play, noting their strengths and interests. Learning activities are then planned or spontaneously implemented to support continuous learning through engaging, open-ended investigations.
All learning activities are designed to shape children’s developing sense of identity and place. This is in line with the intentions of the ‘The Early Years Learning Framework [EYLF] belonging, being and becoming’.
Preschool is provided for all four year old children in the year before they attend school. Children must turn four by the 30th April to be eligible to attend.
